CrossFit Athletic Story

CrossFit Athletic: Super HerosWe grew up with sport being an integral part of our lives from a very young age. We were involved with playing and coaching, and our passion led us to complete a 3-year degree in Exercise Sports Science at ACU. On completion of our degree, we started working as personal trainers at Sydney’s George Street Platinum Fitness First.

As personal trainers we were constantly looking for new ways to help our clients achieve their goals – to lose weight, get fit, tone-up, improve cardio vascular endurance and look great. Science and our experience pointed to circuit training at high-intensity.

In 2008 we were introduced to CrossFit training, which encompassed all of the benefits of high-intensity circuit training but with the added benefits of strength, power, agility, speed and balance.

After applying CrossFit with great effect to our own training, we started to implement the training methods with our clients. It was clear from the outset we were on to a winning formula. Their results and physical performance improved during training, and what’s more, they loved it.

The combination of gymnastics and weightlifting introduced a more technical side to the training. We were amazed how client’s appreciated learning and developing new skills, and constantly worked hard to improve their technique and movement.

However it wasn’t all roses, as the set-up at Fitness First didn’t suit the CrossFit approach. The lack of space and heavy focus on weight machines was not conducive to effective intensity training. We were restricted to small spaces and our clients were becoming frustrated.

Plus, because of the variety of training, our clients wanted to train more frequently, however the cost of extra personal training sessions was cost prohibitive. We tested larger, outdoor training groups, which provided a more cost effective solution for our clients. Surprisingly it was also far more rewarding for us as we found people were progressing at an exponential rate.

Our clients responded well to the team-like atmosphere and friendly competition. We had new members joining the groups, and with the CrossFit approach we could scale the exercises to suit individuals.

In early 2010 we launched CrossFit Athletic, our own 325sqm indoor training facility in Brookvale, which is purpose-built for group training in the CrossFit format.
We no longer have to dodge machines and other obstacles to complete our workouts. We love what we do, and we’re celebrating the opportunity to help more people achieve the training results they’re after.
