“I was not very optimistic about my first session with CrossFit Athletic, as I have been training for years with some of the best Strength and Conditioning coaches the Australian Institute and New South Wales Institute of Sport has to offer. I was expecting the session to be tough and more of a social thing but I was completely wrong.

I was surprised at the results I was getting, particularly as I was already training 6 days a week, 2-3 times a day. I did not think I could improve with the workload I was already doing but I definitely noticed a difference. I found myself feeling stronger, fitter and leaner quite quickly after training with CrossFit Athletic. I even incorporated some of the exercises and techniques into my other training to make myself work that little bit harder and make it a little bit more interesting.

I enjoyed the social and competitive nature of the classes, which made me go back every week. My regular training is extremely tough and I push myself to my limits, however I do these by myself and it can get boring. The sessions with CrossFit Athletic reignited my spark and I enjoyed competing against other people. It improved my own training and made me hungry to go back to see what I was capable of. I also enjoyed the company of the other members and found everybody to be very welcoming and encouraging towards one another, creating a really positive environment.

“I have been trying to get the strength back in my shoulder after reconstruction surgery a year ago. I was doing a basic gym program but it was not until after joining CrossFit Athletic that I started getting strength back in my shoulder. After only 6 weeks I was able to do more chin ups than I could before surgery!

Weights is an important part of selection into the Australian Water Polo Team and has never been a strength of mine. I did strength testing before starting CrossFit Athletic and after 8 weeks I am stronger than I have ever been, even before shoulder surgery. CrossFit Athletic has made a huge difference in how I play in the water as well as my strength out of the water. “I first started training at CrossFit Athletic in July 2010 whilst I was on the mend from a knee reconstruction (Sept 09). The sessions were challenging and tough but still fun and in two months I was really noticing some great results. I was getting faster on the touch field and running for longer on the soccer field. I was starting to look and feel like an athlete again. Clothes that I hadn’t worn for nearly two years were starting to fit me again and the need to buy smaller jeans and shorts, is exciting for any woman!

Even from an early age I have been in representative teams for Gymnastics, Soccer and Touch Football, 5 times National Champion for Taekwondo and Australian Representative at the World and Asian championships. I began training at CrossFit Athletic 1 day a week and after a few months I increased it to twice a week. As my fitness level increased, my confidence also began to increase and the guys motivated me to begin training 3 days a week. It was when I started this 3 day a week training that I saw the most change in my boday shape. Since March 2010, I have lost over 10 kg and 40cm from my overall measurements with my body fat levels decreasing dramatically. Great strength training in a group environment to keep you motivated. The focus on correct technique at CrossFit Athletic is first class and you are always given individual attention. The variety of the work outs are great to keep you interested and you never know what to expect but you are always pushed hard.
