What’s included in my membership?
Our membership is a Training Membership, which is different from conventional gym membership, where you pay a Monthly Fee to simply access the gym and then you’re left alone. Our Training Membership entitles you to unlimited training sessions.
We focus on educating our members on correct technique and movement patterns so you can achieve optimal results. You also receive nutritional advice, rehab education and access to relevant information seminars.
How many sessions can I do a week?
You can attend as many sessions as you like. Our timetable allows you train in the morning or the evening, 6 days a week. And you don’t need to book – you simply turn-up when you’re ready to train.
Do I have to sign a contract?
There are no contracts or joining fees, unless you take-up a discounted 6 or 12-month membership. We understand that people’s situations change, such as moving or changing jobs. If you can no longer train we will cancel your membership no questions asked.
How do I pay?
Our preference is to set-up a Direct Debit payment, which is debited monthly. However you only pay for 4 weeks every month, which means you pay for 48 weeks a year (4 wks x 12 mths = 48 wks), providing a 4-week payment holiday each year!
Should I eat before I train?
You should definitely eat prior to training, ideally 90 minutes prior to the session but we understand that’s not always possible. We’ll give you guidance on what to eat and timing for those who have limited time prior to a session. We will also assist you with post-workout nutrition, as recovery is just as important as preparation.
Do I need to get fit before I start?
This is one of the most common questions we get asked, and the answer is no. People think, “I’ll start as soon as I get myself fit”, only to be in the same position 6 months later.
We cater for all fitness levels, and the exercises are tailored to you as an individual, so your fitness level is irrelevant. We guarantee you’ll be 3 times fitter within 4 weeks of starting our program than you would ever be trying to do it on your own.
What if I have never trained before?
Everything in our program is scalable – whether you’re a seasoned athlete, or you’re a first-time trainer aged 50 years old. We ensure that everyone is taught the basics so you understand how your body should feel during different movements. Once the fundamentals are learned, intensity and weight are increased to ensure you progress. This allows everyone to do the same workout, without anybody being left behind.
What if I have never lifted weights before?
Lifting weights is vital for increasing strength, which is a fundamental component of any training program. Just because you haven’t lifted weights before does not mean you can’t take part in CrossFit.
In fact, it’s often easier to train people who haven’t used weights before, as they haven’t picked up bad habits that can be hard to correct. We’ve found that girls who have never lifted weights before have a better technique than guys, as they don’t use their natural strength to lift the weights.
Will I bulk up?
This is a common question, particularly from girls worried that weights will make them heavier and look like a body builder. The short answer is no, because of the aerobic intensity of the session.
Firstly, aerobic exercise utilises energy stores (glycogen), and when they’re not replaced through Carbs, the body turns to protein as an energy source, which reduces the amount that can be used to build muscle. Secondly, the muscles in the body become confused as to what you’re asking them to do – they’re torn between trying to grow and becoming more efficient in aerobic endurance. So despite getting stronger and having better muscle definition, you won’t end up looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger anytime soon.
